Polar Code - Advanced training

Polar Code - Advanced training

This course meets the requirement of IMO - the International Code for Ships Operating in Polar Waters  mandatory under both the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).

The Advanced Polar Code training course is principally intended for Masters and Officers in charge of a navigational watch involved in navigating in ice conditions. A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to use the knowledge and experience gained to overcome the problems brought about by navigating in ice covered seas.  The Polar Code is intended to cover the full range of shipping-related matters relevant to navigation in waters surrounding the two poles – ship design, construction and equipment; operational and training concerns; search and rescue; and, equally important, the protection of the unique environment and eco-systems of the polar regions.

Course is designed to approach knowledge of:

Planning and conducting a voyage in polar water and ice covered seas,
Managing the safe operation of vessels operating in polar waters,
Maintaining safety of the ship's crew and passengers and the operational condition of life-saving, fire-fighting and other systems.

The Polar Code includes mandatory measures covering safety part (part I-A) and pollution prevention (part II-A) and recommendatory provisions for both (parts I-B and II-B).
