About the Training Centre
Split Ship Management is a privately owned maritime company founded in May 1994. That same year we launched our Maritime Training Centre (MTC); 25 years on, we are the third-oldest maritime training centre and one of the largest in Europe. Our 65 highly qualified instructors train over 4,500 seafarers every year.
We were also the first maritime company in Croatia to be approved for ISO 9000, in 1996. We hold certification for our business insurance and management system under ISO 9001:2015, together with an extended MLC 2006 approval issued by DET NORSKE VERITAS, and an ISM DOC certificate dating from 1998. We are also approved by the Panama, Liberia and Bahamas flag states. Our clients come from all over the world, including Croatia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, Singapore, Korea and the USA. Among our range of services we offer a wide spectrum of training programmes — over 320 in total — for crew members. Our programmes comply with STCW and IMO requirements. We hold training approvals from the Croatian Maritime Authority, the MCA UK and the Nautical Institute in the United Kingdom.

The Training Centre provides training for every position on board – from entry-level courses for a seafarer’s first embarkation, to advanced courses for all ranks, as well as courses for yacht masters, interior crew and other yacht staff. We also track the continuing professional development of maritime personnel and courses for shore-based staff.

The Training Centre currently offers 315 courses as part of its extensive programme, and this number is constantly growing in line with market demand and the needs of our clients.
We have a wide range of equipment for the courses we offer, as well as modern bridge and engine room simulators.
Instructors at the Training Centre are Masters and Chief Engineers with extensive experience at sea, who have also completed the required train-the-trainer programme. Most courses run on a weekly basis, and it is also worth highlighting the option of individual, tailor-made courses for trainees.
